ON Friday evening, it was the Widnes & District Darts League RTB Finals night, hosted by the Mill Brow SC – and a host of exciting semi-finals and finals were played.

Achievers RTB Cup THE Achievers RTB Cup got Finals Night under way with the first semi-final between Billy Fox and Joe Batty.

Joe continued his impressive form for the season taking the contest in two straight legs.

The next semi-final saw Eddie Dootson take the opening leg against Glyn Owen in just 17 darts.

But not to be outdone, Glyn hit straight back to make the contest even.

Eddie, however, repeated his early form taking the decider in 17 darts.

In the final Eddie Dootson quickly made his intentions clear with a superb 14 dart leg of darts.

However, Joe Batty struck straight back with an 18 darter, with all resting on the final leg it was Eddie who took the first piece of silverware on the night.

Jack Adams Secretaries Cup THE Jack Adams Secretaries Cup opened with Adam Mellor against Danny Woods.

With Adam taking the opening leg, Danny had to respond quickly.

But Adam never gave his opponent a chance to get back into the match as he wrapped it up with a 14 dart display.

The second semi-final saw the first leg between Ian Wall and Andy Abbott drawn in what was a tense encounter.

But on the restart it was Andy who went a leg to the good.

Not for long, however, as Ian hit back with the best leg of darts on the night with an excellent 10 darter.

That, though, was the end of Ian’s night as Andy took the decider to go into the final.

In the final Adam Mellor wasted no time taking the cup, despite good pressure from Andy Abbott, as he took the contest in two straight legs.

Alf Houghton Memorial Shield THE Second Division Individuals’ competition got under way with Mike Ruane taking on Alan Moran.

But it was not to be Mike’s year as Alan Moran took the first semi-final 2-0.

The second semi-final saw Luke Carey take the opening leg of darts only to see opponent Scott Grady nullify his lead making it a leg of darts apiece.

With all resting on the last leg, a quickfire 15 darter saw Scott through to the final.

In the final, Scott Grady put Alan Moran on the back foot as he struck with an opening 16 dart leg.

Alan could not find the resolve to fight back as Scott soon added the telling second leg to become the Second Division individuals champion.

Alan Knowles Memorial Shield THE First Division Individuals’, sponsored by the Corporation Club, started with Mike Howard taking on Karl Whitfield.

Mike came from behind to level the score after Karl had opened with a strong 17 dart display.

At a leg apiece, however, Mike fell short of the mark as Karl struck again to go into the final.

His opponent in the final had the easiest of routes through as John Glover’s scheduled opponent Trevor Chadwick was unable to attend.

In the final, John Glover stamped his mark on the match with an opening 14 dart leg.

His teammate, Karl Whitfield, however was not going to give up without a fight as he responded to level the score.

But with the silverware all to play for, John just had the edge as he came through to take the First Division Individuals title 2-1. Jason Bright’s President Pairs THE town pairs, sponsored by Chris & Linda Bright, started well for Jamie Donegan & Adam Mellor as they took the opening leg of darts.

But a strong comeback by Eddie Dootson & Joe Kelly saw them first level the score to force a deciding leg, which they duly went on to take.

In the second semi-final, Tex Bowles & Joe Batty struck with an impressive 13 dart display against Tony Green & Glyn Owen.

And it was soon all over as they rapidly took the second leg to go through to the final.

In the final an excellent 14 dart leg saw Eddie Dootson and Joe Kelly open their account.

And despite a valiant effort by Tex and Joe, it was not to be their year as Eddie and Joe took the second leg to be crowned the Jason Bright President’s Pairs champions with a 2-0 final scoreline.

Karalius Bros. Individuals THE coveted Town Individuals’ was the final competition of the evening.

The opening semi-final saw Alan Magee from the Halton Stadium take on the Wellington’s Ste Whitfield.

With Alan taking the opening leg, he quickly added the second in 17 darts to book his spot in the final.

The second semi-final was a tremendous contest, with the Wellington’s John Glover opening his account with a 15 dart leg, only to see his opponent John Kilkenny from the Halton Stadium strike back with a 17 dart display.

With a place in the final all resting on the final leg of darts, a top drawer 16 dart leg saw John through.

It was fitting that the best was saved for last as the final was the finest contest of the whole evening.

Alan Magee struck first with a 14 dart display, only to see John Glover deliver a counter blow in 16 darts.

With the Karalius Bros. Town Individuals set for a close finish, it was Alan, under intense pressure, who took the crown with a superb 16 dart deciding leg.
