HFH U10 Reds 40 St Jude’s U10 0 THE Hornets produced a really good performance to record a comfortable win at home to St Jude’s.

Cameron Billington opened the scoring when he did well to get on the end of a great kick to the corner by Jake Davies and touch down, also tagging on the extras.

This was quickly followed by a try and goal from Harry Robertson, who used his pace to round the defence and score under the sticks.

Jake then used his strength close to the line to score, also kicking the two.

And when Chris Bellard barged over the line from dummy-half it meant the Hornets went into the break with a commanding 22-0 lead.

In the second half the Hornets carried on where they left off with Mason Leather touching down in the corner after some good passing along the line, also kicking the goal.

Next to score a try and a goal was Lewis George, who was again on the end of some good handling to go over in the corner.

Despite their best efforts, St Jude’s were unable to break through the Hornets’ quite outstanding defence and the final try of the game came when Jake dummied his way over to score his second four-pointer with Matty Mullarkey adding the extras as the Hornets sealed a well- deserved victory.

Man-of-the-match was split three ways between Mason Leather, Jake Davies and Luke Lamey for their great play and also sticking to the gameplan throughout.

Top tackler went to both Bobby Finch and Harry Robertson for their excellent cover tackling and Matty Mullarkey was handed the coaches’ award for some great defending on his first game back after injury. Oldham St Annes U9 8 HFH U9 6 HORNETS produced a scintillating game of rugby league at Oldham only to lose by a couple of tries in what was an excellent encounter. The visitors rocked Oldham with a massive first defensive set. Evan Whittall went over the whitewash for the first of the forward’s hat-trick.

The scoreline stayed the same for 10 minutes.

Hornets then conceded before bouncing back with an excellent Theo McNulty effort which saw the centre race 50 metres to the line.

The teams went into half-time level at 3-3 after Whittall bagged another try.

Great rugby was played by both sets of youngsters that was an absolute joy to watch, topped off by the unbelievable range of passing and ball skills from the Hornets’ man-of-thematch Joey Blackwood.

Hornets took a hold of the game when Bennett and Blackwood directed their forwards upfield to put top defender Albie Dale under the sticks for a great try.

Soon after, most improved Vincent Rowlands scored a beauty to put the red-andgreen machine further in front.

The impressive Hornets prop Josh Percival was outstanding and collected the coaches’ award.

Unfortunately, the Hornets’ small squad told in the end as St Anne’s made numerous interchanges constantly freshening-up their side.

As a result, Hornets conceded tries late on but they produced a fine display of attacking talent to which the Oldham coach praised the Widnes outfit as the best attacking side he had seen this year.
