● Halton Farnworth Hornets matches played on the weekend June 11-12 Leyland Warriors 4

HFH Reds 12 THIS was another fantastic team performance which saw the Reds to cruise to victory.

The Tuihalamaka twins were back after missing the previous week’s game in typical menacing fashion.

Jackson opened the scoring with his first of three tries to be followed by his brother, Lucas, who went over for a pair and also went on to earn the man-of-the-match award.

Ever-present Daniel Houghton had a fine game again, crossing for two tries while captain and coaches’ award winner George Attwood got his name on the scoresheet alongside Charlie Fallon.

Another great attacking display from Jacob Fitzsimon saw him bag a hat-trick.

The top tackler award was handed to Oliver Griffin-Jones who was relentless in defence making 12 fine stops. HFH U8 Blacks 6 Woolston U8 14 HALTON Farnworth Hornets’ U8 Blacks team came up against strong opposition in the form of Woolston who outnumbered them two to one.

Despite this, the Hornets showed great improvement in their teamwork and even managed to fool Woolston with a dummy pass and bring this to fruition with a try for Thomas Courtney-Connor.

Samuel Houghton-Squire showed great courage running strongly into the opposition and was only a yard short of scoring his first try.

Well deserving player-ofthe-match was Lyla Finch who not only scored three tries but made some amazing tackles and worked hard carrying the ball upfield.

Thomas scored a second try after the interval with the final try made by Alfie Ross.

Halton eventually lost out 14-6 but they did amazingly well and every week are going from strength to strength. HFH U7 Reds 13 Leyland U7 13 AN absolutely brilliant game between two sides that were equally matched in every department.

In a hard-fought encounter where both teams displayed some brilliant attacking play, there were tries for HFH from Ollie Jenkins (4), James Prescott (3), Cian Winstanley (3) who picked up coaches’ award for his efforts and another hat-trick for Charlie George who also secured the top tackler award for his brilliant try-saving stops.

In defence, there were some ferocious tackles from both teams but the outstanding display came from Alfie Grabaskey who never took a backward step and hunted the opposition down and every tackle was textbook around the legs.

Alongside some brilliant attacking play, all of this earned Alfie the man-of-thematch award.

Both sides deserved plaudits for their display and were a real credit to their coaching staff and parents.

HFH U11 14 Crosfields U11 16 HORNETS went behind early in the game before debutant Conall Slavin crossed for his first try for the club.

Jack Craig crossed for Hornets’ second try but a score right on half-time gave Crosfields a 12-10 lead at the break.

The Warrington side increased the lead in the second half with a converted score before man-of-the-match Finnlay Hill scored the try of the game beating two defenders on a run to the line that brought Hornets within two points.

Hornets, however, were unable to get the decisive score and just missed out in the end.

The coaches’ award went to Joey Nulty while the top tackler honour was handed to Jack Craig.

HFH U8 Greens 14 Rylands 2 THIS was an impressive game from the Hornets with their best defensive efforts of the year.

With great rugby skills on show, Hornets opened the scoring but Rylands responded quickly with a try of their own.

After this Hornets took control with tries from Jack Campbell (2), Ollie Reeves (2), Thomas Krause (2) and tries apiece from Connor Simons and Nathan Percival and hat-tricks from Lewis Lunt and George McKeown.

The man-of-the-match award went to Michael Downy, with top tackler Alfie Ward.

Coaches’ award was handed to Frankie Doyle for his efforts in his first game back since breaking his collar bone.

HFH Open Age 12 Pilks A 26 HORNETS failed to control the ball in a disappointing display against a very strong St Helens side.

The hosts took the lead when Chris Lunt crossed with Alex Smith adding the conversion.

Pilks then staged a recovery and Hornets failure to complete sets helped them cross for the equalising try just before half-time.

Hornets were hit by a bad injury to Ian Skinner who left the game with a broken arm.

This meant Hornets had to reshuffle the team and Pilks took full advantage to take a 12-6 lead.

With order restored Hornets hit back with a well-taken try from Robbie Conroy with Smith converted to level the scores.

As Hornets chased for a winning score, Pilks took advantage of two loose balls to go ahead in the contest and secure victory. ● Turn to page 59 and 60 for reports from the Hornets’ matches played last weekend.
