Salt has joined the club after resigning as manager of Cheshire League Premier Division side Rylands earlier this month after one season there at the helm.

Salt has built a reputation as highlyrated trainer following coaching spells at Warrington Town as reserve-team manager and a lengthy five-year spell as an assistant at Runcorn Town before departing to join Rylands as manager last summer.

He said: “I am pleased to be joining Widnes FC in what is an exciting time for the club. After speaking to Danny (Meadowcroft), the decision was an easy one.

“I am looking forward to working alongside Danny and Brian (Pritchard), and between the three of us, I believe that we have what it takes to the take the club up the divisions.

“I can’t wait for the season to start and for all the hard work to begin.”

Salt also enjoyed an illustrious playing career, beginning at Wigan Athletic before turning out for a number of local clubs including Runcorn Town, Witton Albion and St Helens Town before becoming a fan favourite at Warrington Town.
