Festival out of this world

-

THE North West Astronomy Festival will return to Runcorn this weekend with another celebration of all things outerspace.

Heath Business And Technical Park’s conference centre will host three days of talks, stalls and demonstrations including ‘solar watch’, an astronomer question and answer session, planetarium, telescope surgery, workshops and meteorites.

Beginners will be able to fine out help and advice and meet astronomy groups in their neighbourhood.

Guest speakers include Jane Green, Nigel Henbest, Heather Couper, Nick Howes, Stuart Atkinson, Megan Argo, Gary Palmer and Andrew Davies.

Festival-goers can also relax with an evening of food and music at the Saturday Social Supper.

This year, each day will have a separate emphasis with students on Friday, authors on Saturday and Sunday will be a family day.

An event spokeswoman said: “Held annually in Runcorn Cheshire the festival brings together a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion then shares it with a keen public audience.

“The festival prides itself on the variety of exhibitors from clubs and societies, educational groups and traders – it is so much more than a trade show.

“Now in its fourth year, the festival goes from strength to strength and brings the very best of the astronomy world to the North West.

“NWAF is a not-for-profit organisation and all profits fund activities for the festival to ensure a sustainable, positive future for the event.”

The North West Astronomy Festival is on 10am-5pm from Friday-Sunday, July 1-3.

Entry on the door is £5 per person, children under 16 go free.

Saturday VIP tickets and for the Saturday Social Supper can only be ordered online.
