Ward and Jenkins shine bright but U7 Reds just miss out to Crosfields

HFH U7 Reds 11 Crosfields U7 12 IN a fiercely-contested match where both teams displayed some aggressive tackling and exciting attacking play it was Crosfields that eventually came out on top by one try.

HFH made a slow start, allowing Crosfields to race ahead with three early tries.

However when HFH eventually woke up they showed some brilliant pieces of attacking play with doubles from Charlie George and Cian Winstanley plus singles from Dylan Stephenson and Ollie Jenkins. James Prescott also bagged four to take his total for the season so far to 50.

The man-of-the-match award went to Aaron Ward who is finally realising his own potential with some barnstormi­ng runs and he also scored a try.

In defence there were some excellent displays of tackling from Casey Collins, Tyler Finnegan and top tackler award winner Aiden Clarke.

But special mention should go to Ollie ‘Boom Boom’ Jenkins who has passed the 200 mark for single tackles this season so far.

The coaches’ award went to new boy Euan McPherson, who in his debut game, never took a backward step and looks like a promising talent for the future.

Despite the loss, HFH made a great account of themselves and made their coaches and parents extremely proud.

HFH Reds U8 11 Bank Quay Bulls 6 THE Reds got back to winning ways with an 11-6 win against a big Warrington side.

Top tackler George Attwood opened the scoring with the first of his two tries and also managed four try-saving tackles. Tyler Hollins was next on the scoresheet before coaches’ award winner Jackson Tuihalamak­a went over for the first of his three.

Lewis Baxter managed to force his way over after another solid game.

Try of the game went to Christian Murphy with a length-of-the-field effort with a top game from Jacob Fitzsimon who bagged himself a hat-trick. Man-of-the-match went to Harvey Wycherley with a staggering 15 tackles and some great running.

HFH U9 3 Clock Face 10 HORNETS went down to a first half faltering display away to Clock Face. Hornets never got started and Clock Face were a relentless attacking force and cruised to a first half lead.

It was an improved Hornets side that came out after the break, but for the second week running it was too little, too late.

Hornets won the second half 3-2 with tries from Evans Whittall, Harvey Bennett and Theo McNulty, the latter turning in a man-of-the-match performanc­e.

Vincent Rowlands was again outstandin­g for 40 minutes and collected the coaches award. Top tackler went to the workhorse Jack Shaw and most improved award winner went to the talented Lily Byrne for a faultless display.
