Fortunes mixed for The Corpy

ON Friday evening, the Widnes & District Darts Summer League sponsored by The Corpy Club commenced.

In Section One, The Corpy Club took on the Cricketers Arms ‘A’.

The Corpy claimed the first three games through Alan Moran (180), Mark O’Connor and Mike Ruane.

P Mason took the next game for the Cricketers, but The Corpy were on a roll as Andy Ruane, Dave Pickles and Neil Platt took the remaining three games and the match.

The Corpy then went on to play Halton Stadium.

The Stadium’s Kenny Murphy, Joe Kelly and Joe Price (17 darts) secured the first three games giving them a very healthy advantage.

The Corpy fought back, taking two in a row via Jeff Thompson and Mark O’Connor.

Barry Stanners took the all-important penultimat­e game for the Stadium to secure their success whilst in a consolatio­n, Dave Pickles took the final one for The Corpy.

In Section Two, Hough Green SC took on the Wellington.

It wasn’t to be Hough Green’s night as the Wellington took all seven games and the match via John Glover, Ste Whitfield, Karl Whitfield (16 darts), James Holden, Claire Williams, Anthony Hall and Lol Fonterigo.

Hough Green’s second game was against the Goldmine.

Hough Green’s S Cosgrove took the first game, which was quickly matched by the Goldmine’s Terry Roach (19 darts).

D Woods took Hough Green ahead, then the Goldmine’s R O’Connor levelled.

The Goldmine then took the lead with two in a row via A Mullally and Sean Bell to secure their victory. Hough Green claimed the final game through Russ Hardman as the contest finished 4-3 to the Goldmine. ● Round-ups from Section Three and Section Four on page 59.
