Robbery gang knocks victim unconscious
Police say no link to recent attacks:
AGANG of muggers left their victim unconscious during a robbery in Runcorn.
Cheshire police said the man was in the subway by The Knoll in Palacefields when he was approached by a group of men or women who attacked him. He suffered a swollen eye and bruising to his body and was knocked out during the incident.
The robbers stole cash from him and made off.
Police said the victim was left ‘shaken’.
A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said the robbery took place at some time between 3.15pm and 3.45pm on Saturday, July 2.
Detective Sergeant Adam Bolger said police were not linking the incident to other violent offences in east Runcorn over the past month such as a mugging in Windmill Hill in which a 64-year-old man was kicked in the head and his phone thrown in bushes by three young males on June 14 and a vicious assault in Murdishaw involving a lone offender on June 10.
Residents reacted to The Knoll subway robbery on the Weekly News Facebook page, with Catherine Beesley, of The Uplands, commenting that she is ‘afraid to venture out in the evening’ and Rebecca Anfield, Community Of Youth volunteer, warning colleague Kyle Elliott to avoid the route.
Mike Unsworth said the area was like ‘The Bronx’.
Cheshire police are keen to hear from anyone with any information about the incident.
A constabulary spokeswoman said: “Anyone who may have witnessed the incident take place or has any information, which may help police with their enquiries, is asked to contact 101 quoting incident number 599 of July 2 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
