U8s go so close with fine effort

HFH U8 Black 14 Rylands U8 16 THIS exciting match saw Hornets’ Black team beaten by only two scores showing the terrific progress that they have made this year.

They really have become a force to be reckoned with, and although they were exhausted because they had no substitute­s they really played their best and scored a very impressive 14 tries between them.

Newcomer Ollie Stead scored two tries, ploughing through Rylands Tigers’ defence and earned himself the man-of-the-match accolade.

Bobby Houghton and Alfie Lingham-Gillan made some amazing tackles and each scored a try

Lyla Finch scored two tries, Jude Phillips’s determined attitude and strength scored a further three and Thomas Courtney-Connor flew down the field scoring an impressive five in the contest.

Their confidence is building each week and this is evident in team member Samuel Houghton-Squire who took some tough tackles in this game but made successful off-loads and gained very impressive yards. HFH U8 Greens 11 LM Rangers U8 2 HALTON Hornets’ U8 Greens welcomed Leigh Miners Rangers for the last game before the summer break.

The Hornets took an early lead with strong running and determinat­ion from Ollie Reeves to open the scoring.

Excellent defence from the Hornets on the next couple of sets kept the visitors out and from that point they never looked back taking a strong hold on the game.

There were some great individual tries from Jack Campbell who crossed for a hat-trick and Thomas Krause who went over twice.

In addition some quality passing moves resulted in further tries for Lewis Lunt, George McKeown, Connor Simons and Nathan Percival.

Man-of-the-match for the Hornets went to Lewis Lunt. Top tackler was Thomas Krause and the coaches’ award went to Nathan Percival.
