U14s keep crown in fine style

HFH U14 30 Shevington U14 6 HORNETS warmed up for this weekend’s National Cup Final by retaining their NWC Premier Division title with a tremendous victory.

It was a great display from Hornets who scored in the first minute of the game.

A knock-on from Shevington was punished with some great rugby setting up Will Smith to score in the corner.

Hornets kept up the pressure well and scored further tries through Harvey McDaid, Lewis Talbot and Lewis Dodd to lead the clash 20-0 at half-time.

The second half was much the same with Hornets scoring the try of the game when Keenan McDaid ran a terrific line for teammate Dodd to put him away to score under the posts.

Dan Hill rounded off the Hornets’ scoring with another good fourpointer before Shevington were rewarded for their efforts in the encounter with a late consolation try.

HFH U13 10 Blackbrook U13 28 A LARGELY lethargic first half and a lack of invention in attack all but ruled out the Hornets’ chances of league honours this season.

The St Helens outfit avenged their NWC Cup defeat to Halton scoring four unanswered tries in a dominant opening period that saw them 22-0 ahead at the break.

Hornets fared better in the second half keeping Blackbrook to a single additional score.

They finally found some success in attack by way of a Reese Sumner try and a brave effort from Sam Craig converted by Marco Williamson.

The next fixture, a Lancashire Cup second round encounter away to Latchford, will be Halton’s immediate focus. ● Further reports from Hornets’ reports on page 58.
