Zak treble leads U9s to victory

-

HFH U9 3 Moorfield U9 2 HAT-TRICK hero Zak Mannion secured victory for Hornets in a fiercelycontested Widnes derby.

In a tough encounter there were no early scores as hard-hitting defence stood out.

Moorfield took the lead out wide after 10 minutes, but Hornets hit back with Zak breaking through the opposition defence to equalise.

Some great defence and big strong running from both sides made it a great game to watch.

Moorfield retook the lead only for the Hornets side to once again draw level with Mannion proving just too strong to stop as he went over just before the half-time whistle.

The second-half saw both teams dig in.

Shaw, who was the game’s man-of-thematch, was outstanding.

Vincent Rowlands was fearless and Joey Blackwood looked dangerous all game.

The resolute Hornets’ defence was a wall of green-and-red and did not falter all half.

Kilgannon and Bennett both saved certain tries as they showed the spirit that ran throughout the team in an excellent Hornets display.

Ellis Fisher was one of the Hornets’ standout performers, walking away with the top defender award.

Most improved player went to Joey Blackwood and coaches’ man-of-thematch went to gamewinner Zak Mannion who ran 70 metres beating every opposition player on his way to win the contest for Hornets.

The game was played in a true Widnes derby spirit with both sides playing really well.
