Sections’ three averages leaders all suffer first defeats of the season

ON the league front in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n, it was not a good night for the three section leaders of the averages.

The trio went into their matches all unbeaten.

However, Section One’s Chris Koral fell 21-17 at Grapes, Section Two leader Phil Hudson was edged out by one chalk 21-20 in his game and Section Three pacesetter Neil Scott also missed out by the same narrow scoreline.

Section One leaders Tigers Head were involved in a tremendous battle at the Grapes where they just managed to hold onto their unbeaten record 156-152.

The best winner on the night was Mark Winnington who triumphed 21-12.

Second-placed Pavilions ‘A’ travelled to take on Halton RBL ‘A’ and came away with a 142-132 victory.

The best winner for Pavilions was Alan Briscoe (21-8) while the best reply for Legion was recorded by Mike Egerton (21-10).

Hazel Pear moved into third place after a 164-115 victory over Goshawk ‘A’. Kevin Hanwell (21-6) and Alan Dean (21-9) led the way for the Pear with the only reply for the Hawk from Tex Rowlands who won his game 21-17.

Section Two pacesetter­s Corporatio­n visited Pavilions ‘D’ and registered a 152-125 victory. Ollie Kerr’s 21-3 was the best winner on the night.

Egerton Memorial in second lost ground on the leaders after falling 165-130 at fourth-placed Kingsley ‘A’.

Colin Jackson was the outstandin­g player on the night winning his game 21-6.

Dionne Kinsey’s 21-18 was the only reply for Egerton.

Third-placed Kingswood ‘B’ travelled to take on Overton and went down to a 147-115 defeat. The best winners on the night were Colin Norton (21-2) and Mark Gilson (21-9) with Graham Donnelly’s 21-6 success the best reply for Kingswood.

In Section Three, a weakened Norton Arms ‘B’ took on fourth-placed Castle Park ‘B’ and were beaten 141-99.

The outstandin­g performanc­e came from Castle Park’s Marj Shields (21-3) while the best reply for Norton Arms was recorded by Rob Bennison who won 21-7.

Second-placed Rock Park ‘A’, despite being one player short, made up ground on the leaders with a 141-131 win at Helsby ‘B’. The best win on the night went to Bob Watson who won 21-9.

Third-placed War Memorial also had a good win, 155-110 against Grapes ‘B’. Leading the way for Memorial were Ron Houghton (21-7), Mike Couzens (21-8) and Dennis Sharp (21-9). Dennis Bazley’s 21-9 win was the best reply for the Halton Road outfit. ● Tonight sees the semi-finals of the P & A Morgan Cup. The draw is as follows: Grapes ‘A’ v Overton @ War Memorial and Egerton ‘B’ v Kingsley ‘A’ @ Grapes. ● Last Thursday saw the play-off for Section Three Merit. Through to the semifinal are M Ellison, A Graham, P Ellis and Peter Hollett Jr. The final will take place a week today July 28 with Pavilions hosting the event. ● Club treasurers are reminded to pay their League Fees before July 31.
