Barber in razor-sharp form to secure a thrilling win for Wellington

-

ON Friday evening, the Widnes & District Darts Summer League sponsored by the Corpy Club continued.

In Section One, Halton Stadium took on the Corpy Club and quickly took control.

Neil Ward opened the Stadium’s account, which was backed up by a 19 dart display from Nigel Peterson at 501 and Joe Price with an 18 dart game at round the board.

Barry Stanners added a fourth victory to secure the match before Mike Ruane stepped up to finally get the Corpy on the scoreboard.

But C Rigby and Alan Magee added the extras to a fine Stadium performance.

In the second top flight clash, Halton Stadium took on the Cricketers Arms ‘A’ and carried on from where they left off against the Corpy as they set about routing their opponents.

J Norton claimed the opening game and the rest followed with Alan Magee, Barry Stanners, Kenny Murphy, Joe Price, C Rigby and Neil Ward all successful.

In Section Two, the Goldmine faced off with the Wellington, and began with great determination as Sean Bell took the first game.

They went further ahead through a 19 dart game of 501 from Terry Roach. With T Hunt adding a third, the Goldmine were on the brink of winning the match.

However, the Wellington were determined not to go down without a fight, and levelled through wins from Barry Highfield, Lol Fonterigo and Anthony Hall.

With all resting on the final game, John Barber stepped up to take the match for the Wellington.

In Section Three, Widnes Bowling Club took on the Cricketers Arms ‘B’, and went ahead through P Myler only to see S Durbin cancel the early lead.

But any hopes the Cricketers had of taking the points were soon dashed as Alec McGill, Ben Lyons and Ray Hatton sealed the vital two points for the Bowling Club.

It was mere consolation as Scott Grady and S McDermott took the closing games for the Cricketers Arms ‘B’.

In the second Section Three match, Widnes Bowling Club took on Simms Cross Institute, taking the first game through Alec McGill.

They again conceded the next contest to Andy Abbott, but as in their previous match, the Bowler quickly snatched the points with wins from Ray Hatton (14 darts), James Brown, Ben Lyons and Tex Bowles. The Stute’s Paul Batty took the final game but it was simply a consolation win.

In Section Four, the Mill Brow SC at home to the Majors Arms, were looking to make it three out of three.

However, they came unstuck as the Majors put in a clinical performance.

Paul Linger put the Brow in front but Luke Carey, Mark France, J Tyhe and Andy O’Grady sealed the match for the visitors. Paul Cotty added to the Brow’s scant total but the Majors rounded of a great night of darts with a further win from Nicky Duff.

In the second Section Four clash, the Crow’s Nest took on the Millfield and showed they had settled into their new home taking six in a row via Eric Peel, Brian Duttton, Jamie Donegan, Ray Dutton, R Whittal and Danny Mellor.

It was no consolation to the Millfield as Chris Hall won the final game for his side.
