ZOOTROPOLIS (PG)
★★★★★ JUDY HOPPS(Ginnifer Goodwin) is pursuing her dream of becoming the first serving rabbit police officer in Zootropolis.
The rookie is initially assigned to traffic duty by Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) but the new cop becomes embroiled in the case of a missing resident. With just 48 hours to find Emmitt Otterton, Judy implores a con artist fox called Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) to break the case.
Zootropolis beautifully combines a noir detective thriller, buddy cop comedy and coming of age story with Disney’s trademark visual splendour. Pure animal magic.
10 CLOVERFIELD LANE (15)
★★★★ ★ MICHELLE (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) crashes her car and awakes in an underground bunker, at the mercy of a survivalist called Howard Stambler (John Goodman).
Michelle is told Howard saved her and his neighbour Emmett (John Gallagher Jr) from a devastating attack that has rendered the surface of the Earth uninhabitable... but is he telling her the truth?
10 Cloverfield Lane is a thrilling companion piece to the 2008 found footage sci-fi Cloverfield, which witnessed an otherworldly attack on New York City.
RISEN (12)
★★★ ★★ PONTIUS PILATE (Peter Firth) dispatches tribune Clavius (Joseph Fiennes) and new aide Lucius (Tom Felton) to oversee the crucifixion of Yeshua the Nazarene (Cliff Curtis).
The body is sealed in a guarded tomb to appease Jewish high priest Caiaphas (Stephen Greif), who fears the body will be stolen.
The prophecy comes to pass and rumours circulate that Yeshua has risen from the dead. Mindful that Emperor Tiberius will soon visit, Pilate orders Clavius to locate the body. Risen proffers little to engage secular viewers, despite a committed performance from Fiennes.
