Emma’s big chance to make final
ANURSING student from a Widnes college has impressed judges at a national competition and put herself in a strong position for the finals.
Emma Middlehurst, previously of Ormiston Chadwick Academy on Liverpool Road, has just completed two years at Cronton Sixth Form College.
She studied for a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in health studies, in which she also took part in a nursing cadet programme.
She was awarded an amazing triple distinction star grade for her course which has secured her place at Keele University to start a degree in adult nursing in September.
Emma excelled in the UK Skills competition because of all of the practical knowledge and experience she has gained on her course, which included time spent working on the wards at both Warrington and Halton Hospitals.
She supported nurses and cared for patients in a unique partnership between Cronton and Warrington And Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Emma, who is now waiting to hear if she has qualified for the finals which take place in Birmingham later this year, said: “I was surprised and delighted to find out that I came second in the competition.
“I worked hard to prepare for the UK Skills competition by doing extra training with the tutors at Cronton and with the staff at Warrington Hospital.
“Taking part in the competition has been a great experience and has really encouraged me to achieve my best.
“I am now waiting to hear if I have made it through to the finals and am looking forward to starting my nursing degree after the summer.”
