SINGER and actress Sonia will star in this year’s festive pantomime at The Brindley. The 80s and 90s hitmaker will play the role of Fairy Superior in Cinderella over the Christmas period.

The show will run from Monday, December 12, to Sunday, January 15, at the multi-award winning Halton Council venue.

Enrolling in drama school at the age of eight, where she gained a LAMDA gold medal with honours, set Sonia on the path to becoming a professional singer and actress.

Shortly after leaving school, she made appearances in the popular sitcom Bread as well as the soap opera Brookside.

She was only 16 when she first entered the music business and while playing the Liverpool club circuit, she was spotted by record producer Pete Waterman and an impromptu audition secured a recording contract with Simon Cowell at BMG.

Her debut single You’ll Never Stop Me From Loving You was released in 1989 and shot to number one in the UK, selling 350,000 copies.

Everybody Knows, her debut album, sold half a million copies and included a string of hit singles such as Can’t Forget You, Listen To Your Heart and Counting Every Minute.

She also presented Wetter The Better, a Saturday morning children’s TV show.

She was the UK’s representative in the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, singing her top ten hit Better The Devil You Know, and came second to the Irish entry.

Sonia then entered the world of theatre, receiving excellent reviews as she performed with Dennis Waterman in Slice Of Saturday Night in London’s West End and the lead role of Sandy in Grease, alongside Craig McLachlan and Shane Richie.

Sonia is a veteran pantomime per- former in roles ranging from Principal Boy to Wicked Queen, with her credits over the years including Dick Whittington, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty and Jack And The Beanstalk.

Halton Council’s executive board Member for the arts, Cllr Phil Harris, said: “We are very pleased to announce such a household name to appear in our panto this year.”

Tickets for the show cost £16 for children, £20 for adults, and £19 for concessions.

A family ticket for two adults and two children costs £65.
