Fords No3 on route 66 to win

-

WITH Division Three leaders USC having an open date in the Widnes & District Pensioners’ Bowls League, Fords No3 gained some ground with a resounding 66 chalks win at home to Hough Green Pensioners.

Despite having a 21-5 loser in the first four, Fords were never in danger of defeat as the single figure winners rolled out in the second half.

Bernie Dooley (21-4), John Droogan (21-5) and Mike Glass (21-6) tore the heart out of Hough Green to leave Fords No3 66 chalks up at the end of the match.

Widnes Bowling Club No2, who are in third place, also had seven winners in their home match against bottom of the table Halewood No2.

George McGunigle (21-12) was the one winner for Halewood whilst Derek O’Neil (21-6) and Colin Martin (21-8) were the best winners for Widnes.

Subscription No2 had a fine win at home to Birchfield by 57 chalks. Harold Spruce (21-6) in the first four and Alan Guest (21-3) in the second four were the best winners for Subs.

Cronton saw off a comeback from Fords No2 for whom George Anderson (21-5) was the best winner in the second half.

This, though, was after Dave Quirk (21-4), Peter Nicklin (21-7) and Mike Lannigan (21-8) had put Cronton in total control at the interval.

In the end, Cronton won by 35 chalks. ● Entries are now beginning to come in for the four-a-side competitions to be played at the end of the season. Teams are reminded that they can enter as many sets of six players as they want to by the closing date of Saturday, August 6.
