Sharp’s big win points the way to narrow success for War Memorial

SECTION One leaders in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n, Tigers Head, continued with their fine form with a full house 168-102 victory against Norton Arms ‘A’.

Mark Winnington was the outstandin­g player on the night recording a 21-2 triumph in his match.

Second-placed Pavilions ‘A’ continue to drop chalks at home, this despite a victory over Helsby ‘C’.

Pat Crowe (21-7) and Brian Furber (21-10) led the way for Pavilions while Pat Newhouse (21-10) replied for Helsby ‘C’.

Third-placed Helsby ‘A’ took on Hazel Pear in fourth with Helsby running out the winners 139-123.

Leading the way for Helsby were John Evans and John Salisbury who both won 21-7.

The best reply for the Pear came from Alan Worrall’s 21-11 success.

Halton RBL ‘A’ remain at the bottom of the section after a 151-116 defeat at Grapes ‘A’.

Les Harrington (21-4) and Ryan Dobson (21-8) led the way for the Halton Road outfit while replying for the Legion were Alan Dennett (21-11) and Mike Egerton (21-14).

Corporatio­n lead Section Two but they have played a game more than their rivals.

The 150-113 loss at thirdplace­d Kingswood ‘B’ did not help them either. Leading for Kingswood were Paul Ecclestone (21-4) and Graham Donnelly (21-10). Ollie Kerr (21-10) and Mike Ward (21-14) replied for Corporatio­n.

Second-placed Egerton Memorial took advantage of the leaders’ stumble with a 164-76 victory over a very weakened Willow Brook outfit.

George Aspinwall (21-6), Ernie Ellis (21-8) and Maurice Hambleton (21-9) led the way for Egerton while replying for the Brook was Tommy McGuffie’s 21-17 win.

Fourth-placed Kingsley ‘A’ travelled to take on Overton a spot below them and came away with a 144-131 victory.

Derek Bell who registered a 21-3 success was the outstandin­g winner.

After a poor result last week, Section Three pacesetter­s Norton Arms ‘B’ were back on song with a full house 168-97 victory against Goshawk ‘B’.

Leading the way for the Arms were Alan Teachen (21-8) and Keith Scott (21-10).

Second-placed Rock Park ‘A’ could only muster six players against Castle Park ‘A’ and went down 151-106.

The best winner for the Rock was John Grimes (21-11). Replying for Castle were Maureen Bolton and Eddie Carter who both won 21-13.

Third-placed War Memorial visited Halton RBL ‘B’ and were involved in a almighty battle running out the victors by just a single chalk 130-129.

Mike Ellison (21-7) and Kayleigh Welsh (21-9) led for Halton while replying for War Memorial were Dennis Sharp (21-2) and Ron Wilding (21-10).

Egerton ‘B’ moved up into joint-fourth place with Castle Park ‘B’ after a 154-110 victory over Rock Park ‘B’.

Norton hold a 76 chalk lead on the following pack with just 29 separating the next four teams.
