Runcorn hit by double defeat
IT was a disappointing week for Runcorn who suffered two defeats against Kingsley and Poynton in the league and the Twenty/20 cup.
Runcorn now sit in fifth place in the league, just over 50 points off the top of the table in the Cheshire League First Division.
Ryan Beech and his side lost on Thursday to cup opponents Kingsley in a close encounter but Runcorn were unable to build upon some recent, good performances.
A good score from Patrick Tyrell and support from J Wells and Will Magee helped Runcorn build a score of over 70 between the first four batsmen but a rapid fall of wickets for the bottom order made it difficult for Runcorn to get a victory.
There were highlights for Nathan McNicol too, who took four wickets off four overs when Runcorn were in the field but it wasn’t enough and they turned their attentions to Saturday’s league clash with Poynton.
Runcorn had a slow start with the bat once again and captain Beech and his vice, David McNamara, both got out without scoring a run.
The first six batsmen failed to hit double figures and despite a score of 30 for Dan Booth and 27 for Jack Weston, Beech would’ve been disappointed with his side’s batting performance.
Poynton did well with the bat too and Runcorn’s bowlers were unable to save the game, succumbing to their second defeat in the same week.
However, Beech and his side won’t be too disappointed after a string a good performances have seen them gain some consistency in the league.
They now turn their attentions to this weekend’s fixture against Ashton-on-Mersey who are doing well in third position.
Runcorn’s opponents are just 16 points off the top of the table flyers, Bredbury St Marks and have lost just two games this season, winning six of them.
Beech will be hoping his side can produce a good batting performance as Runcorn look to bridge the gap.
