MAN, 25, DIES FROM BURNS SUFFERED IN HOUSE BLAZE

A BURNS victim died after a house fire in Runcorn last Wednesday.

Daniel Smith, 25, passed away in the early hours of Friday morning.

The blaze was reported at a property on Stone Barn Lane at 3.18pm on Wednesday after the Weekly News had gone to press.

Paramedics treated the casualty at the scene and he was airlifted to hospital.

Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service (CFRS) said the incident happened in an end-terrace property.

Nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution.

Fire engines from Runcorn, Widnes, Warrington, Stockton Heath and the aerial appliance and supporting fire engine from Chester attended, as did police, paramedic and air ambulance.

Gas engineers were called to the scene to make it safe.

A picture published by the fire brigade showed remains of the fire-ravaged first floor and where the roof had previously been.

Other pictures showed black smoke and orange flame.

Cheshire police said officers ‘were not seeking anyone else in connection with their enquiries’. Next of kin were informed. Residents have expressed their condolence­s on Facebook.

Linda Stokes said: “So tragic. Too young to die. Rest in peace.”

John Donaldson said: “Very sad my thoughts go out to his family.”

Andrea Bailey said: “Heartbreak­ing the poor lad.”

Speaking on Tuesday, a Cheshire Fire And Rescue Spokeswoma­n said an investigat­ion had not yet establishe­d how the inferno started.

On Friday, a CFRS spokeswoma­n said: “Sadly we have learned that the 25-yearold man injured in this incident has died. Our thoughts are with all those who knew him.

“Teams from Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service have been out and about in the area to pass on safety advice to members of the community.

“The investigat­ion into what caused the fire is still ongoing.”
