Graffiti sparks rumours town has its own Banksy

-

GRAFFITI which has appeared in Runcorn over the last fortnight has triggered speculation that the town may have its own ‘Banksy’.

Two works have spring up over the last fortnight bearing the same ‘tag’ or nickname of ‘PGA’.

Last week student Emily Burke tweeted an image of a design on the utilities unit near Tanhouse flats on The Croft featuring the Pokemon Go logo reworked to say ‘Pokemon Go & get a life’.

PGA appeared to have been active again overnight on Thursday night with residents waking up to find the phrase ‘I can’t see why this is vandalism’ alongside a rat in sunglasses holding a stick painted on the derelict East Lane House former government office building on East Lane near Runcorn Shopping Centre.

Its position is directly below some existing graffiti featuring the slogan ‘Capitalism at its worst’, which appeared last summer after the Planning Inspectorate gave the go-ahead for a controversial proposed scheme to turn the building into 448 flats, overturning Halton Borough Council’s development control committee’s refusal to approve it.

‘Capitalism at its worst’ and other graffiti appeared in the wake of planning inspector Mark Caine’s decision to find in favour of Absolute Living Developments included the phrases ‘New Southgate’ in reference to the now-demolished experimental housing estate and ‘No flats, democracy not bureaucracy’.

Those pieces do not feature any tag suggesting any creator.
