ARUNCORN home visit care company has been told to improve its safety standards despite being graded ‘good’ overall.

National watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said Just Care (North West) Ltd had breached the Health And Social Care Act 2008 by not managing medicines properly.

Inspectors reported checking medication records during their visit and found that a client was logged as having taken their morning pill despite it still being in the packet at lunchtime.

In addition the CQC said policies on administering medicines provided to staff were ‘not correct’.

Just Care (North West) was graded as ‘requires improvement’ for safety but ‘good’ in all other categories assessed.

The report said the firm had about 61 clients at the time of the visit with a variety of needs including dementia.

Service users said the they felt safe, had ‘ complete trust in the staff’ and made comments such as ‘they are a fine bunch who look after me well’ and ‘the girls are all lovely and kind and I am fine with them all’.

Inspectors said staff were ‘caring’ with ‘high expectations for people and had formed positive relationships with them’ and clients ‘were treated with dignity and their privacy was respected’.

Feedback from residents said the standard of service was ‘excellent’ and they liked the general manager.

Other professionals also praised Just Care (North West).

The report said: “Throughout the inspection we consulted people who used the service.

“We also spoke with staff from the service and obtained the views of four health and social care professionals who had contact with the service.

“Feedback was positive and people said they had no concerns about the care they received or the staff who provided it.”
