Runcorn & Widnes Weekly News

Well done to our students

-

AN EDUCATION chief at Halton Council has congratulated A-level students from across the borough on their results which were above a national rate.

Sixth form and college students in Runcorn and Widnes excelled across both academic and vocational subject areas.

A Halton Council spokesman said that 99% of A-level entries in the borough were awarded A*-E grades, 1% above the reported national pass rate.

The proportion of entries awarded ‘high grades’ also improved with 75% of subject entries graded A*-C.

Students completing BTEC and vocational equivalent subjects also celebrated, with more than 70% of entries awarded Distinctions, which is equivalent to three A grades at A-level.

Cllr Tom McInerney, Halton Council’s executive board member for children, young people and families, said: “The excellent results achieved by students in Halton show the level of commitment and dedication by not only our young people but the hard working teaching staff who have supported them throughout their learning.

“It is so pleasing to see our young people achieve the grades which will enable them to continue their education and learning at universities across the country or working and studying for a higher level apprenticeship.

“On occasions like this it is so important that I thank all who are involved in a student’s education. Congratulations to all.”
