Very Abel final effort by Neal

-

LAST Thursday saw the finals of the Abel Cup handicap held at Halton Royal British Legion.

The first of the semi-finals paired Section Three’s Dave Edwards against Neal Ocego.

And it was Neal who advanced into the final running out the winner 21-8.

The second last-four clash saw club colleagues Chris Price and Jason Bate lock horns.

Chris held sway in their encounter booking his place in the final against teammate Neal.

Despite some heavy rain the standard of bowls played was fantastic.

It was nip and tuck throughout the game but it was Neal’s leading into the corners that won him the silverware.

League secretary Pat Crowe thanked Halton RBL for the use of their facilities. He also thanked Jim Peers and Jim Tomlinson for their help in running the competition.

Pat went on to thank the spectators who stayed despite the poor weather and also congratulated the players from the lower sections that reached the finals night.

Pat then asked league chairman Bob Watson to present the trophy to delighted winner Neal. ● Tonight sees the final of the Jim Ainsworth Cup to be held at War Memorial.

There is a provisional 6.45pm scratch for a 7pm start. Through to the final are B Hough, N Ocego, C Price and A Briscoe. ● Round-ups from the latest action in Sections One, Two and Three on page 59.
