Powell is right on target as Mill Brow edge Millfield in thrilling clash

ON Monday evening, the Widnes & District Darts League winter campaign began with the first round of the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League with Divisions One and Two now playing each other.

Halton Stadium at home to Widnes RUFC, stormed home taking the first eight games through K Garcia, Joe Kelly, Neil Ward, Alan Clark & John Teeling, K Garcia & Eddie Dootson, Carl Rigby & John Kilkenny, Joe Price and Eddie Dootson.

M Jones took the final game for the Wids to ensure there was no whitewash.

The Millfield at home to the Mill Brow SC secured the first two games via Ian Wall and Danny Wood.

The Brow responded with four in a row through Tommy Owens, Brian Spruce & Mark Harrison, Paul Linger & Dave Powell and Chris Bright & Tommy Owens.

The Millfield hit back as two in a row from Brian Dutton & Mike Howard levelled the score setting up a thrilling finale.

Dave Powell (18 darts) then took the game and the match for the Mill Brow SC.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Mersey Hotel romped ahead winning six games in a row through Tony Green, Andy Abbott, Brian Abbott, John Leacy & Dave Evans, Glyn Owen & Andy Abbott and Kyle Yeomans & Tony Green.

Rob Cotty took the next game for the Mersey, only to see the Stute take the final two games and wrap up their comfortabl­e victory with successes for Paul Bennett and Kyle Yeomans.

The Wellington at home to the Majors Arms took the first three games through Ste Whitfield, Anthony Hall and Terry Roach.

The Majors’ Mark France & Darren Attwood and Tony O’Grady & Kevin Grice pulled back two points.

However, any hopes they had of winning the contest were dashed as the Wellington brought home the remaining four games and the match via John Glover & James Holden, John Glover, Karl Whitfield and Karl Windisch.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to the Goldmine claimed two in a row through Scott Grady and Ray Hatton.

The Goldmine’s Sean Bell recovered a point, only to see the Bowler’s opening pair Mark Smith & Tommy Robertson take it back.

The Goldmine were still in with a chance as Sean Bell & John Taylor gave them another point.

The Bowler, however, were still adding to their tally with a win from Harry Ellis & Alex McGill.

A win from the Goldmine’s John Taylor kept their hopes up, but not for long as Tex Bowles (112 finish) and Alex McGill took the final two games and the match for Widnes Bowling Club. ● Turn to page 60 for the round-ups from Friday’s Mill Brow SC RTB League.
