RUNCORN TOWN have got off to a flying start this season and that continued with another victory against Abbey Hey on Saturday.

Town, who defeated Abbey Hey 2-0 last weekend, were expecting a tough game after they faced a strong AFC Liverpool squad during the week and boss Chris Herbert admitted that’s what they got.

“It was a good result but they made life difficult for us,” said Herbert.

“It was up to us to break them down and

RUNCORN’S lengthy run of defeats has finally come to an end after they picked up a welcome victory against Lymm last Saturday.

Ryan Beech’s side won by 45 runs as Runcorn were finally able to produce a good performance with the bat.

Nathan McNicol, David McNamara and captain Beech have all expressed their concerns in recent weeks due to the poor performances Runcorn have put in when batting this season.

However, McNicol was delighted with how his side played this weekend and the New Zealander said there were “smiles all round” at the club following the victory.

“We made over 200 on just two wickets and declared so we did really well. The top order laid a terrific platform for me and David McNamara to come into.

“We had a bit more freedom to bat so it was a nice change. It was a great win and we really enjoyed the weekend. A few us of met up during the week and discussed that we needed to go out and enjoy playing cricket again with our teammates.

“We wanted to play with no fear and we wanted to go out there and express ourselves and in the end, there were smiles all round.”

James Wells opened the batting with an impressive score of 71 runs and was backed up by Patrick Tyrrell’s 16.

McNamara and McNicol put in a partnership of over 50 and the vice-captain took three wickets in the field to back-up a strong individual performance.

Matt Tyrrell was the star of the show amongst the bowlers, taking six wickets off 13 overs and McNicol expressed his delight at seeing the team perform well again.

“It was great to see everyone’s mentality changes this week and we went back to playing with our mates and enjoying it. We want to go with the same mind set this Saturday and hopefully we can pick up another victory and put in another good performance.

“We need to build on this now and push on,” he added.

Runcorn take on Heaton Mersey this weekend and their opponents have lost the last five of their fixtures so Runcorn will be hoping to take advantage and come back with another win.
