AN ALLEGED sighting of a mysterious ‘drone’ shining green beams of light near the Runcorn incinerator has left a mother perplexed and her eight-year-old son spooked enough to be afraid to be alone at times.

The Sandy Lane r resident, who has asked to remain anonymous, said the boy saw what appeared to be a craft featuring lots of red, green and blue lights at some point between 9.25pm and 9.45pm on Wednesday, September 7.

It hovered about on land between her garden and the incinerator then made a V-shaped aerial manoeuvre and accelerated up and away at an angle at ‘lightning speed’.

Although she did not see it, the woman said she heard it and, as her son said, it made a whirring noise like an electric whisk.

Her son said the craft was ‘very big’, had a domed top and a saucer-shaped body.

Immediately after the incident she asked the boy to draw what he said he had seen while the memory was still fresh.

She was keen to stress she did not think it was extraterrestrial and thought it may have been a drone piloted by someone gathering pollution data or a newspaper inspecting the incinerator.

Her intrigue was heightened when she tried to find out if anyone else had seen anything similar and discovered a ‘virtually identical’ sighting above the M62 at Rishworth Moor between Rochdale and Huddersfield, a week to the day earlier on Wednesday, August 31, reported by uk-ufo.co.uk to have taken place at 9.45pm

The woman said: “My son, we think he’s seen a drone, we’re not sure what it was.

“The description sounds like a large drone at the bottom of our garden between the garden and the incinerator.

“My son’s given a very vivid description, he’s only eight.

“I know it’s true I could hear it but I didn’t see it. By the time I got to the window it had gone.

“It flew off at lightning speed.

“He described it as a whisking noise, as a food mixer.

“We have planes and helicopters going past all the time. I just want to know what it was.

“He said it moved at first slowly like a cruise ship and then moved up to two sides of a triangle and then back as if accelerating to take off then up diagonally very fast.

“He said it had something underneath that was open like a hatch.

“I wondered camera.”

She added: “My son came flying in really upset. He won’t go to the toilet by himself.

“I know he’s telling the truth but I don’t know what he’s seen.”

Runcorn’s incinerator operator, Viridor, said it does not operate any drones at the energy-from-waste site. if it was a
