Parking appeal to parents on the school run

-

PARENTS have been warned they could be ticketed over parking while dropping off and picking up their children on the school run in Runcorn.

Cheshire police beat manager PC Richard Green, writing in an official notice on The Heath School website, said that complaints from residents and other mums and dads often accompany the start of the autumn term.

He said cars parked on the roads can reduce visibility and increase the risk of injury for pupils crossing the road.

PC Green added that officers were aware of the pressures parents faced juggling responsibilities, but asked for their support.

Drivers should not park on yellow zig-zag lines, in bus stops, where driveways and other property access is blocked or close to or opposite a junction, he said.

In October last year, police launched an appeal after a 15-year-old girl was hit by a car and the vehicle failed to stop.

PC Green said: “I am keen to avoid enforcement action in your area if at all possible.

“However, it is entirely likely that we will have no option but to start issuing parking tickets should the parking become an issue and this letter be disregarded.”

He added: “I would hope that drivers will not be asking themselves ‘am I risking a ticket?’, when the more important question is ‘am I risking a child?’” School warning
