Jack’s fine skill earns victory
Saddleworth U11 12
HFH U11 18 HORNETS hit the ground running and after a couple of exchanged sets got into the Saddleworth half of the field.
On the last tackle, Scott put a crossfield kick which was collected by Conall Slaven who passed to Graham who then passed inside to Dan O’Neill to put the Hornets 6-0 up.
Saddleworth hit back in the corner and the scores were tied at 6-6 at the break.
Hornets were on the front foot early in the second period and O’Neill finished off a fine move to get his second try to take the lead at 12-6.
Saddleworth hit back with a try from what seemed to be a knock-on from the play-the-ball to level the scores at 12-12.
Hornets, on the attack again, were disallowed another well-worked try out wide.
But with good defence and pressure, Saddleworth turned over possession near their line and quick-thinking from Jack Craig with a show-and-go secured the win for the Hornets as they triumphed 18-12.
The man-of-the-match honour went to Elliott Droogan with Conall Slaven receiving the coaches’ award. Top tackler was Jack Craig. HFH U8 Greens 10
Crosfields U8 7 HFH Greens welcomed Crosfields on their first home game after the summer break.
After a tough encounter at Wigan St Jude’s last week, the Halton boys returned to winning ways.
In the first 10 minutes the Greens dominated and stayed strong in their defensive line.
The scoring was opened by George McKeown who crossed the whitewash twice.
More tries followed from Jack Campbell, Thomas Krause and Lewis Lunt who all recorded braces whilst single tries came from Ollie Reeves and Alfie Ward.
Crosfields fought back with some good runs from their big lads, but HFH proved too strong in the end.
Harry Walker received the coaches’ award, Ollie Reeves was the top tackler while George McKeown was the Hornets’ man-of-thematch.
