Hornets sting Thatto with super second half effort to reach cup final

HFH U12 18 HALTON travelled to Thatto Heath in the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup.
Traditionally games between these two teams are very close and this contest was no different.
From the start both teams’ defences were very committed not allowing either to play their normal free-flowing rugby.
Thatto managed to put Halton under a lot of pressure, forcing a couple of drop outs and repeat sets.
To Halton’s credit they defended brilliantly to keep Thatto out.
However, Thatto were the first to score with a good 90 metre try from their flying winger.
Hornets only had a few opportunities in the first half but didn’t manage to take them, leaving them trailing 4-0 at the interval.
After a good half-time team-talk, the Halton lads responded brilliantly.
Working hard for each other, they started to get a grip on the game and build some pressure on the Thatto line.
And unlike the opening half, Thatto could not keep Halton out.
Evan Kilgannon spotted a gap in the defence and found George Delaney with a great pass. George timed his run to perfection to open Halton’s account.
Charlie Glover kicked the conversion to give Halton the lead.
More strong running and good attacking play enabled a quick play-the-ball and Adam Holroyd powered over with Lewis Hughes successfully converting the score.
The game was wrapped up when good interplay found Charlie who drew the defence to put Ben Lane over.
Charlie converted to make the final score 18-4 and book a place in their second final of the year.
The coaches did not select a top three and man-of-thematch as it was such a good team effort to achieve the win.
All the players performed really well to book their place in the final.
It is a well-deserved reward for the team’s consistency and hard work so far this season and the players continue to show a maturity beyond their years and a tremendous never-say-die attitude.
