Ellie-Jo is flying in the pool

ONE of Halton Swimming Club’s hardest-working and longest-serving members is back in full training after the holiday period and is aiming to further fulfil her potential in the coming year.

A talented swimmer whose speciality is the hardest stroke of them all, the butterfly, Ellie-Jo Hughes finished last season on a high.

Ellie-Jo’s impressive form in the 2015-16 season saw her qualify for numerous events in the end of season Swim Wales Summer Nationals held at the Wales National Pool in Swansea.

In freestyle she qualified for the 50m, 100m and 200m. In the butterfly she made the 50m, 100m and 200m. She also qualified for the 200m individual medley.

Ellie-Jo finished in 14th place in the 50m freestyle, 11th in the 100m freestyle in a personal best time of 1:03.58 and 14th in the 200m freestyle in another PB of 2:19.68.

She made the finals in all butterfly events finishing the 50m in seventh place in a PB of 31.12. She was sixth in the 100m butterfly and narrowly missed out on the medals finishing fourth in the 200m butterfly. These were all terrific achievemen­ts nonetheles­s.

Not just content in competing in the Welsh Nationals, Ellie-Jo took part in the COMAST NonNationa­l Qualifier held at Manchester Aquatics Centre.

She took part in the 100m backstroke finishing in third place winning the bronze medal and the 200m individual medley, claiming a silver medal.

But she saved the best until last, touching the wall first in the 100m butterfly, securing the gold medal.

Ellie-Jo is goes into the forthcomin­g season full of confidence and in top form and is definitely one to watch this year.
