Seized scrambler bikes going to a good home

FIVE scrambler bikes seized during a police operation in Widnes and Runcorn have been donated to the Royal Signals White Helmet Display Team.

Officers confiscated the vehicles during a crackdown on nuisance off-road motorbikes and minimotos.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said the operation’s success followed information from the public, which allowed offenders to be identified.

A spokeswoman for the force said the Royal Signals White Helmets Display Team comprises 30 volunteer soldiers who tour Britain from April to September every year ‘ demonstrating the skills, attributes and personal qualities demanded of a modern Royal Signals soldier’.

It is hoped the donated bikes will make their training camps more effective and produce better riders.

The White Helmets support events to raise cash for charities.

Sgt Mike Arnold, of the Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team, said: “Up until now our volunteers have been using the same bikes to train and display on.

“The bikes donated from Cheshire police will be used to train riders who have never ridden a motorcycle prior to attending our twoweek selection camp.

“Riders without these donated bikes would be riding our ageing fleet of display motorcycles.

“To be able to teach someone on a newer, lighter and smaller engine machine will help both my training staff and I tailor our training to be more progressive and effective in the short time we have to train them.

“Thank you Cheshire police for donating these bikes to our display team.”

Cheshire Police And Crime Commissioner David Keane said: “I am delighted that as a result of Operation Scrambler, we’ve been able to take these bikes off the road and out of our communities for good, while also supporting the work of our Armed Forces.

“Since coming into office, the problem of scrambler bikes has been raised with me by local residents and councillors.

“It is an issue that really matters in these communities and I am really pleased to see riders feeling the effects of the ongoing operation.”
