Let us never forget Halton’s war heroes
SEPTEMBER 25 19162016. The centenary of Todger Jones heroic actions that led him to being awarded the Victoria Cross.
On September 25 on the centenary of his actions an engraved paving stone was placed by his statue in Memorial Gardens, Greenway Road.
His statue is the first of three I propose for Halton, this is my way of saying thank you to everyone who has and still are serving.
The three statues are not about just the individual, they each represent a group of people.
Todger Jones VC DCM represents everyone who has served our country, irrespective of what they have or are doing, and where they come from. Only to be forgotten after discharge.
Thomas Mottershead VC DCM will represent everyone who has and is willing to serve our country irrespective where they come from and what they have done or are doing.
Thomas Wilkinson VC will represent all those who have knowingly gone into action or entering a situation that will cost them their life, whilst serving our country, irrespective of where they come from.
You will notice none of them represent those who have paid the ultimate price, we have the two ceno- taph’s and the many war memorials for that.
As it says on both cenotaphs and every war memorial: Lest we forget How dare we forget?
You can donate through our web site, PayPal, Gogetfunding or by sending a cheque (NOT CASH) made out to the Sgt Thomas Mottershead statue appeal. And send it to Tony Miller, 27 Godstow, Sandymoor, Runcorn, WA7 1UE.

Due to an unfortunate technical error, a mild expletive from a private instant message conversation was inadvertently published in the address of Tony Miller’s letter promoting the Halton VC winner statue appeals last week. We sincerely apologise to Mr Miller for this mistake and any embarrassment caused.
