Groups make it through to award shortlist
ORGANISATIONS from around Halton have been shortlisted in three categories at the 2016 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards.
NHS Halton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), Community Integrated Care and Halton Council have been nominated in the Specialist Service Redesign category for transforming St Luke’s care home in Runcorn.
Specialist care is provided to people with advanced dementia, assisted by experts from the council and NHS.
It has led to people living at St Luke’s avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions and leading full and happy lives.
The CCG, Wellbeing Enterprises CIC and UnLtd have been shortlisted in the Improving Environmental And Social Sustainability category for Lead The Change.
The programme offered support to budding social entrepreneurs in Halton between 2015 and 2016.
It provided an opportunity for residents aged 16 and above to submit ideas that they think will bring about social change and improve the wellbeing of people living in the borough.
Successful ideas were awarded with start-up cash incentives from £500 to £5,000 to get ideas off the ground, with 25 projects so far being funded and £57,000 handed out.
The CCG has been shortlisted in the CCG Of The Year category.
NHS Halton CCG’s chief officer Simon Banks said: “We are extremely proud to be shortlisted for three HSJ Awards for the second year running.
“The awards are judged by industry leaders, making them one of the most prestigious awards on the health calendar; so it is a huge honour for our work to be recognised in this way.”
The winners will be announced at the finals at the Intercontinental O2 in London on Wednesday, November 23.
St Luke’s has also being celebrated at the National Dementia Awards, 3rd Sector Care Awards and Skills For Care Accolades in the past 12 months.
Community Integrated Care’s deputy chief executive officer Cath MurrayHoward said: “St Luke’s is increasingly being nationally recognised as a care home that is supporting people to lead great lives, through delivering a unique model of care.
“We’re honoured to be shortlisted with our partners at this prestigious event. Halton is an excellent borough, with some innovative practice and wonderful partnerships, and this is really highlighted with these three nominations.”
Mark Swift is chief executive officer, Wellbeing Enterprises CIC.
He said: “We’re honoured to have been shortlisted for a HSJ award for a second year running in partnership with Halton CCG and UnLtd for the Lead the Change initiative which focuses on empowering citizens to take the lead in delivering projects that improve the health, wellbeing and life chances of people in Halton.
