Breakfast cash prizes

-

HALTON schools have the chance to win £1,500 for their breakfast clubs.

Entries are being accepted for the Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards.

A specialist panel of judges will hand-pick the entries to the awards and the winners will be announced at the end of October.

Each winning school will receive £1,500 and the 2016 Breakfast Club Awards Grand Winner will received £2,000.

Winners will also be invited to attend an awards ceremony in the Houses Of Parliament.

The ceremony will celebrate the people and activities that help breakfast clubs, from inspirational volunteers to invaluable extra learning sessions.

Benefits offered by breakfast clubs include improved attendance and attainment, tackling hunger in the morning, and providing pre-school care.

Child food poverty policy adviser Lindsay Graham said: “I am delighted to help judge the 2016 Breakfast Club Awards.

“Breakfast clubs contribute considerable amounts to children’s education and wellbeing.

“They offer a great start to the school day with a filling breakfast, helping to improve attendance, confidence, concentration and achievement, all being vital components of attainment.”

“Benefits of these clubs include supporting working parents, feeding hungry children and offering opportunities to increase informal learning with activities and socialisation.

“I am really looking forward to seeing this year’s entries and would encourage schools and community groups to enter and share their stories about their breakfast clubs.”

There are five categories to enter and entries close on Friday, October 7.
