Foster carers get the VIP treatment
FOSTER carers from across Halton have been celebrated at a special awards ceremony for the care and commitment they give to children and young people all year round.
The event took place at the Select Security Stadium on Friday, September 16.
Foster carers, their own children and children in their care came together to enjoy a three course meal, live entertainment and amusements during the night.
Over the course of the evening foster carers were awarded with long service awards celebrating and giving thanks for years of service ranging from five to a massive 38.
Halton Council’s executive board member for children and young people, Cllr Tom McInerney, said: “We give special thanks each year to our foster carers at our annual awards ceremony.
“It’s one way we can per- sonally let our foster carers know that they are appreciated and that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
“I am filled with pride to learn about the countless achievements of our foster carers and the children they care for.”
Halton’s mayor Ged Philbin and mayoress Rosalin Wong also attended.
All the foster carers repre- sented a variety of the kinds of services that the council oversees.
Some offer long-term care for children until they reach adulthood while others provide emergency care placements at short notice.
Cllr McInerney added: “Our children and young people flourish in foster homes across Halton. It is the warmth and support they are offered that gives them a chance experience an ordinary life.
“Without foster carers we wouldn’t be able to offer children and young people the chance they deserve.”
