Cases for Hornets’ defences

-

Leigh Miners U12 0

HFH U12 12 HALTON had an early start at Leigh and were unusually slow out the blocks as they failed to control the ball, making a lot of unforced errors.

However the team’s strong rearguard shone once again, as they worked tirelessly for each other defending repeat sets in their own 20 emphasising how good a defensive team they are.

Hornets managed to open the scoring as a towering bomb from the boot of Lewis Hughes was collected by Ben Lane and he outpaced the cover to score.

Lewis converted to make it 6-0 at half-time.

The second half was equally tight and again Halton had to do a lot of defending as Adam Holroyd, Aiden Doolan, Dylan Simm and Conaugh O’Neill worked tirelessly to stop the Miners’ attacks.

Hornets managed to make a rare entry into Leigh’s 20 and a strong run and good offload from Sam Haynes put Stevie O’Connor over out wide.

Charlie Glover converted to make the final score 12-0.

The victory was all down to the team’s effort in defence and shown that when not at their best they can still win matches against strong opposition. Wigan St Cuth U11 0

HFH U11 30 HORNETS took on a big Wigan St Cuthbert’s side and a steep slope in the first half of their game but were up to the test.

After a scrappy start from both sides due to the wet conditions, Hornets were first to cross with Zac Marsden coming up with the ball from a bomb from teammate Conall Slaven.

Next was Elliott Droogan hitting a short ball off Joey Nulty to cross and the Hornets were 12 points up at the break.

The second half saw Hornets on top from the off and Tom Fallon crossed from dummyhalf. Finlay Hill crossed out wide and Droogan got his second to round off a cracking Hornets triumph.

Man-of-the-match went to George Corcoran. Coaches’ award was won by Joey Nulty and top tackler went jointly to Zac Marsden and Elliott Droogan.
