Council did not ‘pull out’

- Cllr Rob Polhill Leader Halton Borough Council

IN response to the article in last week’s Weekly News regarding Madeline McKenna Court, the council would like to clarify that it has NOT ‘pulled out’ of the purchase of the care home as stated in the headline.

Once we were made aware of the potential closure of the home, the council made it clear that the intention was to ensure the home remained open.

As a result the council made the decision to offer to purchase the property and continue to deliver the valuable service that is offered to residents. This sale was agreed and the purchase was progressing.

At the same time the current owners were obliged by Government to continue marketing the property as there were certain grants that were in place that would have to be paid in full by the current owners if they could not sell the property to another registered housing provider.

During this period another potential buyer has come forward and they do meet the requirements set down in the grant criteria.

This has meant that Your Housing Group have accepted this offer and are no longer looking to sell to Halton Borough Council.

However, the council continues to work with Your Housing Group to ensure that the sale proceeds and that this valuable service remains.

Residents, families and staff are being kept informed of the process, and the council will continue to be involved and support the ongoing future of the home.” ●
