Yes I have been drinking – but I only had a couple of bottles!

POLICE in Runcorn caused a stir on Twitter after pretending to pull over a toddler in a pedal car for a breathalys­er test.

Officers posed for a photo with the youngster in her pink Mini Cooper – racking up 14,000 likes and 3,655 shares at time of writing.

The picture, which showed an officer kneeling to breathalys­e the girl, was posted alongside a caption which said she had ‘drank a couple of bottles’.

It said: “Officers asked the drivers parents if she had been drinking. They replied she’d had a couple of bottles that morning.”

The post has received hundreds of comments from amused followers - with neighbouri­ng forces even joining in.

Nantwich police joked: “A little reckless to allow the driver to remain in the vehicle with keys in ignition! Would be an interestin­g pursuit.”

Twitter user @ PopTarantu­la said: “Driver tested positive for Calpol. #Reported.”

The post has even attracted attention from as far as Canada – with Michelle Branch commenting: “Aw so cute! Be easy on her, lol. Best wishes from Canada!”

A Cheshire police spokesman said: “In Cheshire we’re here to support communitie­s and we pride ourselves on our community engagement.

“On this occasion, our officers were in the process of seizing a vehicle for no insurance in Runcorn when an underage driver rolled up to them in a shiny set of wheels, veering from side to side.

“The officers were naturally suspicious, and after her parents revealed she’d had a couple of bottles that morning, they played along and pretended to take a breath test.

“Thankfully, the tot’s reading was clear and she was free to go.”
