CAB offers help to cut bills and stay warm

-

● CITIZENS Advice Halton will hold a series of events next week to help residents find the best value on their energy bills.

The initiative is part of Big Energy Saving Week, running from October 31 to November 6, a national campaign run by Citizens Advice, Energy Saving Trust (EST) and the Department For Business, Energy And Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Its aim is to cut gas and electricity costs by encouraging bill-payers to follow the three-step rule of check, switch and save.

Residents will be urged to check their tariff and compare it with other suppliers before switching to a cheaper deal if available.

They will also receive tips on saving energy in the home.

Citizens Advice Halton’s free energy saving event will take place at Windmill Hill Children’s Centre, noon-3pm on Tuesday, November 1.

Sessions are also being planned for Widnes Market and Runcorn Shopping Centre.

Alternatively, residents can use ● Citizens Advice Halton’s daily drop-in sessions to find help.

Using Citizens Advice’s online energy price comparison tool, advisers can show how to search for the best deal.

Advisers can also check whether people are eligible for a discount from their supplier, for example if they are claiming certain benefits.

Those who cannot make it to the event can still follow Big Energy Saving Week’s threestep rule of check, switch, save at home.

They can use Citizens Advice’s online price comparison tool to work out if they can find a cheaper energy deal elsewhere, or contact Citizens Advice for help.

Hitesh Patel, Citizens Advice Halton chief executive, said: “Checking your energy tariff and switching to a cheaper deal is one of the quickest and easiest ways to cut your bills.

“Big Energy Saving Week is a great opportunity to get expert advice on how you can make savings before winter starts, from changing energy supplier to insulating your home.” Find us on facebook www. facebook. com/ runcornandwidnesevents
