Glover is the hero as Terry Abbott Memorial Cup Final goes to the
ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the latter stages of the Terry Abbott Memorial Cup took place at Simms Cross Institute.
In the first semi-final the Mill Brow SC took on the Wellington.
Carl Hackney took the first game for the Brow before Barry Highfield levelled for the Wellington.
A win from Paul Linger then a further victory from Carl Hackney & Brian Spruce gave the Brow a good lead.
However, they could not sustain this as the Wellington surged ahead, taking the remaining five games and the match through John Glover & Anthony Hall (12 darts), Ste Whitfield & Karl Whitfield (17 darts), John Barber, Ste Whitfield and Kath Conway.
In the second semi-final, Halton Stadium locked horns with Widnes Bowling Club.
Eddie Dootson and John Kilkenny gave the Stadium an early lead, only to see the Bowler draw level via Tommy Robertson and Joe Batty & Scott Grady.
The Bowler then forged ahead through James Brown & Dave Gerrard.
Parity was restored by the Stadium’s Kevin Garcia & Eddie Dootson (17 darts).
But that was to be as good as it got for the Stadium as Widnes Bowling Club took the final three games and the match via Scott Grady, Alex McGill and Joe Batty (12 darts).
In the final, the Bowler’s Alex McGill took the first game before Ste Whitfield levelled for the Wellington.
A further three victories from Barry Highfield (19 darts), Kath Conway & Anton Conway, Anthony Hall & John Glover gave the Wellington a good lead. ●
The Bowler though were on their case, however, as they levelled the contest with three successes in a row from Tommy Robertson & Alex McGill, Tex Bowles (19 darts) and Joe Batty.
The outcome of the thrilling final was decided as John Glover took the final game securing the silverware for the Wellington Inn.
