Danny joy for Widnes Cricket Club in classic George Sharples Shield
ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the latter stages of the George Sharples Shield took place at the Birchfield.
In the semi-final, Hough Green SAC took on the Cricketers Arms.
Tony Barker, Anton Freeman and S Cosgrove secured the first three games for Hough Green.
The Cricketerers Arms came back to level with three in a row from Ian Gardner & Damian Eustace, Graham Fenney & Owen Batty and Peter Mason & Gary Bate.
Hough Green took the lead again with a further two wins from Ray McIntosh and Keith Glover thus booking their place in the final.
Damian Eustace’s victory for the Cricketers Arms in the last game was merely a consolation.
In the final, Hough Green took on Widnes Cricket Club.
Dean Morris won the first game for the Cricket Club.
D Lawton then levelled for Hough Green before S Cosgrove and Keith Glover & Tony Barker took them ahead.
Parity was restored with two in a row from the Cricket Club’s Rob Morris & D Pilling.
A further win apiece from Hough Green’s Tony Barker and the Cricket Club’s Rob Morris made the score 4-4 setting up a winner-takes-all last match-up.
Danny Mellor then held his nerve for the Cricket Club with victory securing his team the George Sharples Shield.
