HUNDREDS are expected to flock to Victoria Park in Widnes for Halton Haven Hospice’s annual Santa Dash fundraiser.

Organisers say the event will raise £5,000 for the hospice, which provides care for residents living with terminal conditions.

The event will start at 11am on Sunday, December 4, with 4km loops around Victoria Park.

All participants are given a Santa suit by the Hospice to wear during the event, creating an incredible view of hundreds of jolly red characters filling the park. Last year’s event attracted nearly 400 participants who braved the cold.

Halton Haven fund- raiser and Santa Dash organiser Ciaran Clotworthy said: “This is one of our flagship events and we’re delighted that the people of Halton continue to show their support.

“It’s loads of fun and we can’t wait for another successful year.”

Participants can run, jog or walk the route and all Santas will receive a medal upon crossing the finish line. They will then be able to enjoy Halton Borough Council’s Panto In The Park event which is taking place immediately after the Santa Dash.

It costs £20 to enter, or £10 for children aged between nine and 16, with all participants encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as they can.

All money raised will fund patient care at Halton Haven, on Barnfield Avenue in Runcorn.

It relies on fundraising events and donations to raise half its running costs – approximately £1.25m each year – as only 50% is covered by the Government.

Runners are being urged to arrive at 10am to register before the event begins. Alternatively visit www. haltonhavenhospice.co.uk/santadash-2016
