Teen car thief gets 876 days’ detention
A THIEF who stole keys from inside a house and drove off in his victim’s taxi from Runcorn has been sentenced to more than two years in a young offenders institute.
Callum Quirk, 18, of The Knoll, appeared at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, November 29.
He pleaded guilty to burglary and theft of a motor vehicle and was sentenced, receiving 876 days in a young offenders institution for burglary and three months concurrent for theft of a motor vehicle.
Police said the case related to a burglary at a house on Saltwood Drive in the early hours of Tuesday, September 29, in which access was gained via a conservatory and keys to a Ford Mondeo taxi were taken and the car stolen,
Det Sgt Rob McLoughlin, senior investigating officer, said footwear marks and extra forensic evidence implicated Quirk, who was arrested in Palacefields on Sunday, October 30.
He had featured in a Cheshire police #WantedWednesday appeal a few days earlier on October 26.
Det Sgy McLoughlin said: “Burglary is a very emotive and intrusive crime and clearly Quirk has not changed his ways ● following previous convictions.
“I’m pleased with the court result and believe that this outcome shows that burglary and similar offences will be dealt with robustly by the police and the wider criminal justice system.
“We will continue to make every effort to improve the quality of life for our communities and target offenders.
“Anyone with information on burglary offences in their area should contact Cheshire police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
