Pavilion plan for park in major overhaul

-

A NEW pavilion is planned for a Widnes park.

Halton Borough Council has applied to build the pavilion at Crow Wood Park off Bancroft Road.

It is also planned to demolish redundant changing rooms and replace entrance gates and piers at Bowers Brook and Barnes Road.

The planning application said that the existing park building was in ‘very poor condition’.

The document said that the work could be com- bined as a large scale scheme or built in a phased approach at the park, which is typically well used in the spring, summer and autumn.

The new pavilion would be a secure operational base for staff and provide facilities such as toilets and shelter in a bid to encourage by a wider range of users to make the most of the park.

Park entrance signs are earmarked for replacement and new benches could be installed.

The esixting building was originally football changing rooms and is a base for a gardener and maintenance staff.

The document said that the building was at the end of its life, with poor access and lacking facilities for residents.

The proposal document said: “Improvements are required at The Bongs and Barnes Road entrances to bring them up to standard and the surfaces of existing footpaths throughout the site are in need of upgrade as are built facilities for site staff and visitors.

“The park has undergone a number of development phases in recent years which have significantly improved amenity value.

“Works have included improved access into and across the park, boundary works and security of the bowling green and increased play provision for junior and youth age groups.

“The current phase of proposed works aims to build on these improvements by removing the existing poor quality building and replacing it, in a new location, with a high quality pavilion which will serve as a base for the permanent site staff whilst creating a central hub for the various users.”

The park has a bowling green, a junior football pitch, junior and youth play areas, a multi-use games court, and an ornamental garden. ●
