Goals are achieved by pupils in successful girls’ football tournament

THE Halton Primary Girls Football Competitio­n was delivered as part of the Halton School Games Competitio­n Calendar and was coordinate­d by Halton school games organiser Karen Drake with the support of the Liverpool County Football Associatio­n’s Anna Farrell.

Special thanks must go to Wade Deacon High School in Widnes for hosting and providing their sports leaders who did a brilliant job refereeing, coaching and assisting with the running of the successful tournament.

Schools participat­ing were Spinney Avenue CE Primary (Widnes), Hill View Primary (Runcorn), Windmill Hill Primary (Runcorn), Moorfield (Widnes), Gorsewood (Runcorn), The Brow Community Primary (Runcorn), St Michael’s Catholic Primary (Widnes), All Saints Upton CE Primary (Widnes), Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Primary (Widnes) and Lunts Heath Primary (Widnes).

There were some really closely-fought matches throughout the group stages with end-to-end action.

The girls were also provided with coaching sessions to develop their skills, led by Megan from Liverpool County FA and Wade Deacon sports leaders, when they were not playing matches.

The final was played between the winners of each group, Hill View and Spinney Avenue. ●

And it all resulted in Hill View being crowned champions after winning the final 3-0.

Third place in the tournament were Moorfield who defeated All Saints Upton 1-0 in their play-off encounter.

Hill View will go on to represent Halton at the Merseyside School Games Girls Football finals in March next year.

Certificat­es of participat­ion were presented to all youngsters, with medals and trophies awarded to the finalists.
