Goldmine strike but Mill Brow hit back with four in a row to triumph

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League continued.

In Division One, the Wellington at home to Halton Stadium conceded the first game to the Stadium’s Joe Kelly. Anthony Hall (18 darts) then levelled for the Wellington.

The Stadium took the lead with two in a row through Kevin Garcia and opening pair, Alan Clark & Alan Magee (180).

The Wellington fought back to level via Terry Roach (180) & John Glover (14 darts) and Ste Whitfield & Karl Windisch.

They then went ahead, sealing the match with two further victories from John Glover (17 darts) and Ste Whitfield (16 darts).

Neil Ward (19 darts and 180) took the final game for the Stadium as the contest finished 5-4.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to Simms Cross Institute claimed the first game through Scott Byrne. Dave Evans then levelled for the Stute.

The Bowler took the lead again via Joe Batty, only to see the Stute restore parity again through their opening pair, John Leacy & Dave Evans.

The Bowler rallied, taking three in a row through Tommy Robertson & Andy Beddows, Alex McGill & Dave Pickles and Dave Gerrard ensuring their success.

The Stute’s Glyn Owen took the penultimat­e game while Tex Bowles from the Bowling Club won the final game wrapping up a 6-3 triumph.

In Division Two, Mill Brow SC at home to the Goldmine won the first game through Tommy Owens.

The Goldmine retaliated strongly winning four in a row through Sean Bell, John Taylor, Adam Durbin & Sean Bell and James Holden & John Taylor.

The Mill Brow, however, plucked the next four games out of the bag through Jack Dunn & Mark Harrison, Chris Bright, Brian Spruce and Dave Jones to take the match 5-4.

Widnes RUFC at home to the Mersey Hotel won the opening game through Dan Newall. Paul Cotty levelled for the Mersey before Rob Cotty took them ahead.

It was then all-square as the Wids’ opening pair, Shaun Newall & Mike Jones, won their contest

The Mersey stood their ground taking a win from Ray Cowley & John Cotty, but again the Wids levelled, this time through Andy Griffiths & Dan Newall.

Both teams were equally determined as a further win apiece from the Mersey’s Ray Cowley and the Wids’ Ian Nicholson made the score 4-4.

Mike Jones then secured victory in the final game completing a 5-4 success for Widnes RUFC. ● Reports from the Mill Brow SC RTB League on pages 52 and 53.
