Funding is available for local groups

● FUNDS are being made available to voluntary groups across Runcorn which work with vulnerable people.

The Community Foundation For Merseyside has opened the Alfred Shaw Trust for applicatio­ns.

Following its launch in 2015, the fund has awarded more than £13,000 which has helped a large number of groups.

The money has purchased equipment for a gymnastic club, set up a Christmas social for the elderly and musical instrument­s for a group working with young people with disabiliti­es.

The trust, managed by the Community Foundation For Merseyside, was establishe­d in memory of Alfred Shaw to help raise the aspiration­s of children and young people and support vulnerable elderly people in Runcorn.

Examples of the types of projects that could be funded include equipment for youth clubs, music workshops for young people, and training for volunteers.

Other ideas which could be funded include equipment for luncheon clubs, activities for older people’s groups, projects to reduce social isolation for the vulnerable, and play items for those working with children with disabiliti­es.

The foundation is encouragin­g voluntary groups in the town to apply for funding for their projects.

The maximum grant available is £1,500 for groups and £250 for individual­s.
