Undiscovered musical talent hunted ahead of Sir Elton’s Widnes gig
SIR Elton John has launched a contest for budding muscial artists to win the chance to make videos ahead of his Widnes gig in June.
In celebration of the icon and Bernie Taupin’s 50th anniversary of their songwriting partnership, Sir Elton is giving undiscovered creative talent the chance to create official music videos for three iconic songs.
This includes Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, and Bennie And The Jets.
Elton John: The Cut was launched on Monday, December 12, at YouTube’s year end show Brandcast, hosted by James Corden.
Entries to the contest are open to the public from Monday, January 9.
Music video entries for each of the songs will feature different artistic elements.
Submissions for Rocket Man will feature animation, Tiny Dancer will be live-action, and Bennie And The Jets will have choreography.
Sir Elton and Bernie will select three winners which will premiere on YouTube next summer.
The icon will perform a gig at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes on Sunday, June 18.
Sir Elton said: “We’re excited to partner with YouTube to bring together generations of artists and music lovers around a shared passion for storytelling.
“YouTube is a rich tapestry of creativity, and I can’t wait to see how the breadth of talent from the dance, live-action and animation communities apply their vision to these cherished songs.”
A total of $10,000 will be awarded to the winning creators to support future video-based creative projects.
More than 60% of tickets for the Widnes concert sold within the first week of sale, but there are still hospitality packages available.
Halton Borough Council’s executive board member for the stadium and culture, Cllr Phil Harris, said “There has already been considerable interest in our hospitality since the tour date was announced so book today on to avoid missing out on a unique opportunity.”
