Take a walk for Parkinson’s sufferers

-

PEOPLE across Halton looking for a New Year’s resolution are being invited to join Parkinson’s UK in theirs.

Walk For Parkinson’s was launched on Wednesday, January 11, and the charity has resolved to make it their biggest series yet.

The charity wants to recruit as many walkers as possible, including from Runcorn and Widnes, for events in the North West taking place later this year.

Each walk offers a range of distances and terrains with something to suit everyone from those looking for a leisurely stroll to keen walkers who prefer a bigger challenge.

Dave Clark, Sky Sports presenter and keen supporter of Parkinson’s UK is the Champion Of Walking for Parkinson’s UK.

Since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s himself in 2011 aged 44, Dave has found that walking is a fantastic way to keep fit.

He said: “In 2016, my resolution was to complete my own 200-mile coast to coast walk for Parkinson’s UK. It was tough but the feeling when I crossed the finish line was fantastic.

“This year, our resolution is to make it the biggest series yet for Walk For Parkinson’s.

“So if you’re looking for a New ● ● Year’s resolution that’s achievable and rewarding, sign up to Walk for Parkinson’s in the North West and join us in our resolution, because with every step we take and every pound that we raise, we get closer to a cure.”

It is the third year of the Walk For Parkinson’s series.

Last year the charity had more than 3,800 people sign up to walk and between them raised £344,000.

In the North West, 200 walkers raised nearly £16,000.

All money raised by Walk For Parkinson’s will be used to help find better treatments, and ultimately a cure, as well as providing support and information for the 127,000 people affected by the disease across the UK.

For the first time this year, some of the events will also offer a running route at the same time as the walk. ● For more information visit www.parkinsons.org.uk/ walkforparkinsons
